A little bit about me:

Originally from Dublin, I moved to the UK in 1985 and have lived in several areas around the UK, from Birmingham and London, to the Home Counties and Southampton.

I moved to Harrogate in 2003 with my husband, Andrew, and our dog. Andrew and I met in 1991, and we are surrounded, and supported, by our amazing friends and families.

A bit more Gerri:

In my non-working time, I’m an avid walker with my dog, and also enjoy the gym and generally keeping fit.
Having left school at 14 for my hairdressing career, I have returned to education many times as an adult.

I’m a keen creative writer, and have written and narrated several pieces of work for the Harrogate Talking Newspapers for the Blind magazine.

I’m also a big supporter of Dementia Forward and have been trained on their Dementia Friendly course.
I am currently partially qualified as a counsellor and continue to actively work towards obtaining a higher formal qualification in counselling.

As a gay man, I’m an advocate and ally for the LGBTQ+ community.
My core values are authenticity, truth and accountability, believing in the continuous growth of the self and exploration to enhance my experience in life.

I have been fortunate to work as a hairdresser and training manager for several large salons and was also the manager of the salon and spa on board the QE2.

I was also lucky to have worked for Wella UK as a supervisor of Technical Research and Development, which provided a great insight into the way big companies develop their products for the hairdressing industry.

I have owned three of my own salons, the most recent being Dangerfield & Keane on Cold Bath Road in Harrogate, which operated for 15 years until 2023. During this time, I continued to work closely with Wella and presented on stage for them and many other organisations.

I hold a Master Colour Expert award from Wella UK and have been trained by My New Hair, having experience in working with fibre and real hair wigs, hairpieces and Freedom Hair. Although I work with hair extensions, I do not fit them.

I have worked with many clients who are dealing with effects of Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy, Alopecia and general hair loss. And, I have also worked extensively with clients from the Trans community over the years.

My number one driver as a hairdresser is to make people happy with both my work and my service.
